Tecnhniques for Accurate Measuring
Follow the following techniques to take measurements off body models correctly.
Rule 1: Use an apparel virtualisation software vs. 3D modelling software
Apparel virtualisation software generally have a toolset optimised for taking body measurements off 3D avatars. This includes having a variety of measuring tools like 'circumference', 'length', and 'height' measurements, as well as 'along surface' and 'tape measure-like' measurement options.
We recommend CLO3D
or Marvellous Designer
.
Rule 2: Always use 'tape measure' vs. 'surface measure'
As the name suggests, 'tape measure' simulates the process of taking a measurement using a measuring tape in reality. For example, if you're taking a bust girth measurement, it will run from bust peak to bust peak vs. along the surface of the skin.
Rule 3: Use 'height measure' for vertical heights
A good modelling software will allows you to take vertical measurements from the standing surface. it is important that the avatar's feet are levelled on the standing surface to take accurate vertical heights.
